Our Club Member of the Week this week is- Lynda Hommer ! Everyone say hi to Lynda ! I hope you will enjoy getting to know her a little better!

Your Name:  Lynda Hommer

At what age did you start sewing/quilting? Sewing probably 10-12.  I remember doing embroidery about that age.  And I distinctly remember being frustrated in my 8th grade Home-Ec (that dates me!) because I already knew what she was teaching!  Mom and Grandma sewed.  Most of my clothes were hand made probably until college. I started quilting about 20 years ago.  Both my grandmothers had quilted so it felt like I was following tradition

What is your most favorite project you ever made and why?  I can’t pick one!  I really enjoyed Jacquelynne’s Silver Linings last year and also a couple of quilt alongs from GE Designs.  I am so grateful to designers and shop owners for finding new ways to keep us busy and engaged during the pandemic.

Who or what inspired you to become a quilter? A friend and I decided to take a class and from there it just grew!

Do you do other types of sewing besides quilting? (clothing, home décor, etc.) I have sewn suit coats for my husband and I made wedding dresses for both my daughters along with several bridesmaids dresses.  I also made clothes for myself and my daughters.  Haven’t made clothes recently.  Have sewn aprons, curtains, etc.

Do you have other creative hobbies? (cooking, knitting, painting, gardening….) I knit, crochet, embroider (I used to do counted cross stitch)  I scrapbook and I do genealogy.

Did you name your sewing machine? No, but I have 4.  Juki, BabyLock Jazz, Singer Featherweight and Singer 301

What treats do you indulge in while working in your sewing room? Chocolate

Tell us about your family (children, grandchildren, fur babies, etc.)  My husband and I have been married 49 years, we have two married daughters, 7 grandchildren, one granddaughter-in-law and our first great granddaughter.  We take family vacations and include a niece and her family.  She is like our third daughter.

Where do you live, and what is your favorite thing about where you live? Iowa – only state I have ever lived in.  I love the change of seasons
